Scope and content: Full-length portrait of Maurel in costume with a long cloak, plumed hat and sword. In black ink below the photograph and on the mount below the image Maurel has written: 'Misero! Attendi se vuoi morir! Don Giovanni - Atto I / À la comtesse Gladys de Grey Témoignage d'une longue admiration, Vor. Maurel - Londres 1895.' Lady de Grey's label reads: 'Maurel Baritone, a beautiful voice & a great artist & actor. The creator of 'Iago' in 'Otello', a wonderful in [sic] interesting performance.' The photographic studio is The Carbon Studio, 5 West 16th Street, New York. The photograph, copyrighted 1895 by James L. Breese, was originally in album volume 1, page 15.
