Tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn as The Sugar Plum Fairy in a BBC television production of 'Casse Noisette' ('The Nutcracker')

Description: Tutu with a boned bodice of pink fabric shot with gilt thread. The top edge of the bodice is trimmed with gold crin. The front neckline and the centre front are decorated with silver braid, iridescent leaf-shaped sequins, pink pearlised beads, diamantés on wires, and teardrop rhinestones. The basque has one layer of pink and two layers of pale green silk with scalloped edging trimmed with silver cord and decorated with diamanté. The cap sleeves are two layers of scalloped pink and green fabric mounted on white tulle and white net. The sleeves are trimmed with silver cord and decorated with iridescent leaf-shaped sequins, diamanté, gold sequins, and pearlised beads. The skirt is layers of pink net with pointed edges, decorated with silver sequins. The top layer is pale pink net edged with gold and white crin ribbon, silver tinsel, silver sequins, diamanté, beads. It has appliquéd fan-shaped panels of pleated tulle hand-painted pink and decorated with silver and gold sequins and diamanté. There are elastic shoulder straps, an elastic strap in the gusset, and a hoop in the skirt. (Note: The ballet was broadcast on 21 December 1958. The producer was Margaret Dale.
