James McDougall Photographic Collection
James McDougall was commissioned by the Technical Department at the Royal Opera House from 1963 to the early 2000s to record productions in the main auditorium. His photographs were taken from the centre of either the Grand Tier or Orchestra Stalls, using a large format camera to capture details of the sets, the arrangement of the stage, and scene changes for both ballet and opera. The Royal Ballet and Opera holds copyright in his extensive collection of black and white and colour negatives.
