Based on: Based on a dramatic scenario by Paul Foucher about a gipsy girl who thwarts an attempted assassination of a French officer during the Napoleonic occupation of Spain.
Notes: Paquita was originally created for the Paris Opéra with choreography by Joseph Mazilier and music by Edouard Deldevez. The first performance was on 1 Apr 1846. Other revivals followed. Marius Petipa produced the ballet in Moscow in 1847. When he revived it in 1882, in the ball scene at the end, he added a number of new dances to music specially composed by Minkus and it is these dances that are performed in this production of Paquita.
