Notes: |
This collaboration between Théodorakis and Béjart was first presented by the Ballet of the 20th Century in New York (1983), then in Paris (1984). Both music and choreography evoke the eastern warmth of the Mediterranean as well as the contrapuntal rigour of Bach. Alhough he refrained from using identifiably Grecian folk steps and references Béjart said the Greek people felt the ballet connected them with the essence of Greece itself. Lighting design by Jeffrey Phillips.
