Notes: |
This opera exists in two versions: the original 1867 work in five acts and an 1884 version in four acts. Both were written to a French libretto, but also exist in an Italian translation by Achilee de Lauzières. Angelo Zanardini revised Lauzières's translation for the 1884 version, which premiered in Italian under the title 'Don Carlo'. In 1886 Verdi restored the 1867 first act to the 1884 version.
