Soon after its premiere in 1936, Shostakovch's opera 'Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk' was condemned in 'Pravda' following Stalin's attendance at a performance. It disappeared from the repertory. It was officially returned to the Russian repertory in 1963, but in a revised version with the new title 'Katerina Ismailova'.
